DUNVILLE, ON — Another local Conservative candidate has resigned today after he read the Conservative Party platform out loud offending many who heard it.
Gordon McPherson, Conservative candidate for the Norfolk riding immediately stepped down when he was caught publicly quoting official Conservative policies and platform proposals about Syrian refugees and First Nations.
“I deeply regret what I stated directly from our plan to govern,” an apologetic McPherson said on a Facebook, post.
In response to several Conservative candidates and members who have already resigned in controversy, the party’s director of marketing, Dennis Matthews, has reminded members to only imply what they actually mean.
“Instead of saying ‘refugees aren’t welcome in Canada’, simply state that ‘there are terrorists among refugees and they must be screened out,'” Matthews explained in an email to supporters. “That way everyone agrees with you and you don’t have to refer to what the actual platform says.”
