GEORGIAN BAY, ON – The last cottage weekend for the Roberts family ended in utter turmoil, when the two Roberts children had to literally drag their parents out of the family cottage and to the car to head back to their home in Toronto.
The children had rarely come across a temper tantrum like that before.
“I haven’t seen my dad stomp around crying like this since last summer when his golf game got rained out,” said Ian Roberts, age 12.
“Totally,” agreed Danielle Roberts, age 10. “I saw the same thing with my mom after she ran out of batteries…”
Parents Hannah and Derek Roberts, who both work at the same marketing firm in Toronto, tried every attempt to delay leaving their cottage.
“First they refused to get out of the water,” stated Ian Roberts. “They just kept asking if they could go for one more swim or canoe ride, but my sister and I were standing there holding out their towels, not having any of it.”
Once out of the water, the children had more trouble trying to get their parents ready to leave.
“Ever try to dress a grown man who’s not only wet but squirming?” asked Ian Roberts. “It’s not only hard, it’s weird. I didn’t know my dad could move like that.”
Hannah Roberts evaded her children by running around the bedroom, until the two children cornered her next to a dresser.
After much effort, the Roberts children finally got their parents dressed, but getting them to the car proved to be the hardest part.
“Sometimes you just gotta wait it out,“ said Danielle Roberts.
“Yep,” agreed Ian. “When a your dad starts stomping his feet, throwing his pillows around the room, and shouting ‘WHY?!’ for 15 minutes straight, you just gotta let them tire themselves out, before you drag them to the car by the chord of their blackberries.”
At press time Hannah and Derek could not be reached for comment, as they are giving their children the silent treatment.
