WHITEHORSE — Unveiling a much faster way of showcasing the city to visitors, the Whitehorse Waterfront Trolley will be replaced with a Japanese-built high speed bullet train capable of reaching speeds of up to 270 km/h.
The $250 million project was announced today by the Waterfront Trolley Authority along the 1.2 mile long track.
“The current speed of 10 km/h simply wasn’t getting tourists around in time,” explained trolley conductor Michael Simpson. “There were long, awkward silences when we were done explaining the historical significance of the White Pass Railway and the old trolley can’t go much faster. With the new trains, we’ll fly through the city’s history in no time.”
The new N700 Shinkansen has 8 cars and seats up to 400 passengers and additional parallel tracks will be laid to make way for a second train. Within ten seconds, passengers can witness the majestic Yukon River, the city’s modern library and the historic Miles Canyon Railway Society in one spectacular, terrifying blur.
“This progress in tourist railway technology would have made [White Pass & Yukon Route labour contractor] Michael J. Heney very proud,” added the conductor.
