SARNIA, ON – As he completes his tax return, local man David Cupchik says he is very happy that he remembered to get that receipt from the $8.99 chicken sandwich combo he ordered at the Wendy’s by the gas station outside of town last September.
“Doing your own taxes is all about organization and preparation,” said Cupchik. “Thanks to my foresight, I can now claim this as a business expense, I think?”
“Or maybe there is like a food and drink expenses section,” said Cupchik as he stared at the Turbotax program on his computer.
Cupchik acknowledged he may not have been so successful at maintaining his records had he not carefully stuffed the receipt into the pocket of his fall/spring jacket, which he only put on again for the first time last week. It was that kind of planning ahead that gave him the confidence to fire his long-time accountant and do his taxes himself in order to save money.
“Come here son, let me show you how Daddy takes care of business,” said Cupchik to this three year old as he skipped over the Child Tax Credit section.
At press time, Cupchik was googling what a TFSA is for the third time that afternoon.
