QUÉBEC – Pauline Marois confirmed today that she had dismissed Jean Carrière, the PQ’s candidate for Lafontaine, because an islamophobic image he posted on Facebook contained English text.
“Ours is an inclusive party that allows and encourages its candidates to express their discriminatory views,” the Parti Québécois’ leader explained. “Our only requirement is that they exercise their right to free speech in French. I have therefore taken steps to snuff out the creeping bilingualism of this province’s xenophobia.”
As he tore down his election posters, Carrière morosely admitted that the image of a naked woman with her middle finger pointed at the camera and the “Fuck Islam”-tagline was linguistically problematic.
“My goal was to empower women and the naked model and hateful message were definitely the correct choices,” he claimed. “However, I forgot that women should only be empowered in French. For that, I am very sorry.”
Carrière insisted that the image distributed in the press was an aberration.
“I’m not the monster people make me out to be; my other posts conflating Islam with bestiality and pedophilia were written in French” Carrière said while deleting his previous posts that contained any English.
