TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs, currently 3rd in the North East Division, are looking to clinch a first round playoff elimination position tonight.
Thanks to their success in the regular season, both team representatives and players are excited to be swept in the first round of playoffs.
“It’s a really exciting time for us,” GM David Nonis said last week. “We’ve got a lot of young guys in the locker room who are excited to see what it’s like to be eliminated in four games. It’s what we’ve done in the past and will continue to do.”
Head Coach Randy Carlyle shared similar sentiments during an on-ice interview on Thursday.
“If a play-off spot is clinched, the Leafs would likely play Montreal, Washington or Ottawa. We’re hoping we meet up with Washington,” Carlyle said. “It’s more acceptable to lose to a team [like Washington.] They’ve got Ovechkin. Who have we got? James Van Riemsdyk. I’d be happy to lose to a team like the Capitals.”
