EDINBURGH – Responding to public outcry and concern over the recent scandal involving traces of horsemeat found in UK beef products, Scotland’s Food Standards Agency released a statement to reassure consumers that haggis supplies have not been tainted.
“Haggis consumers from around the world who enjoy haggis’ mixture of sheep heart, liver, lung, and stomach lining can safely do so without concern that any horsemeat has made its way into the product,” said a report from the FSA.
Despite today’s announcement, the FSA has declined to confirm whether or not the nation’s supply of black pudding has also been cleared of any horsemeat contamination, sparking fears of reduced public demand for the delicacy made of congealed pig’s blood.
