WHITEHORSE — The City of Whitehorse announced today that it will giving the prestigious Key to the City to the Liberty Tax Services mascot.
According city council, the gigantic maple leaf advertisement was given the honour since for its hard work waving at passing traffic, posing with tourists, and entertaining locals.
“This corporate mascot has gone above and beyond the call of a symbolic spokesperson by working all day regardless of weather conditions,” said Mayor Dan Curtis. “Everyday, this brave anthropomorphized leaf, with its red poly-cotton foam and beaming, fixed smile, serves his community by spreading his message that it’s tax season. It’s a true patriot.”
The mascot silently accepted the award by waving and performing a small jig before continuing to carry out its duties along 4th Avenue and Black Street.
Other recipients of the Key to the City include the garbage truck decorated with Christmas lights and the elusive UFO mobile.
