Kingston, ON — A local woman was on the verge of breakdown when a heroic mug pulled her back from the edge.
What set the mug apart from the average receptacle used to transport hot liquids to the mouth was that it had the word “Hope” emblazoned on it in an inspiring cursive font.
The woman, Mary Arsenault, had been struggling with debt, a sick parent and an unfulfilling marriage, but she reports all was put into perspective at the sight of the mug.
“I was sitting at the kitchen table with a pile of bills trying to figure out how I was going to keep the lights on when I saw it sitting there in the drying rack.” said Arsenault.
“It just said what no one else could,” explained Arsenault. “No one — not my friends or family — had put it quite so plainly. I was suddenly like, ‘Of course! Hope! Have hope! Why didn’t I think of that before?’ ”
“When my kids ask me how I found the strength to pull through during our darkest hour, I’ll tell them, it was the mug. It was the mug that pulled me through.”
This isn’t the first time an inanimate object with a motivational message on it has inspired someone to do something great. Rumour has it the late David Bowie attributed his fierce individuality to a yearly planner that said “Be You” on the cover. Similarly, famed pacifist Gandhi was inspired by a pillow that said, “just a girl who decided to go for it.”
At press time, reports were flooding in that the Syrian civil war had been resolved by a leather keychain with a peace symbol on it.
