HAINES JUNCTION, YUKON — In response to a voting card mix-up that required some 300 Yukon voters to travel nearly 600 kilometers to vote, Elections Canada has fixed the problem by moving the poll to the top of Canada’s highest peak.
“Yukon voters can now find their poll at 60°34′2″N 140°24′14.4″W,” explained Patti Wilson of Elections Canada. “To find the poll, simply register with Kluane National Park about your journey, follow King’s Summit trail, turn right at the ice cap, ascend Dead Man’s Pass and then take a right at Prospector Peak. There will be a sign to guide you.”
“Be sure to bring oxygen tanks, ice picks, ten days worth of supplies and valid photo ID,” added Wilson.
At press time, many early voters who made the treacherous trek were turned down due to only having their voter information card, which is no longer permitted under the Fair Elections Act.
