OAKVILLE, ON — Oakville local Richard Fisk swam in his backyard pool a staggering three times this summer, shattering the national personal pool swimming record.
Said Fisk of the record-breaking dip: “The third time I went in, it actually wasn’t even that nice of a day — kind of chilly and whatnot. But I did it! And then I went inside and took a hot shower.”
Fisk has spent the summer outfitting his pool with a floating blow-up whale, diving board, basketball net and slide. Unfortunately, his 10-year-old son Gordon has not been able to enjoy the pool due to a broken leg that left him in a cast all summer long. “It hasn’t been so bad,” insisted Fisk as slowly floated by on the whale.
As he drained his pool, took apart the pump, scrubbed the lining and packed everything away for next year, the single father of one conceded that the pricey above-ground pool was “maybe not the best investment.”
At press time, Fisk had gone back to Canadian Tire to try to negotiate an exchange of the pool for a hot tub.
