BRANTFORD — NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair claims he will balance the budget while launching new government programs during an economic downturn by using his extensive collection of coupons and Canadian Tire money.
Mulcair unveiled his plan along with a large catalogue of the thousands of vouchers he painstakingly cut out since 1994.
“There are some great deals that could shore up some revenue,” said a bespectacled Mulcair while reading off the sales on various products. “Look, we can save 55 cents on every cantaloupe at IGA. That means we can save a bundle for the Parliamentary cafeteria. Oh, and look! There are Green-coloured cargo pants for only $10 each at Wal-Mart! That will make the military look pretty sharp while saving big.”
Mulcair said he’s done the calculations, which should amount to roughly $2.6 billion, just enough for everyone to have $15 day care so long as all NDP cabinet ministers carpool and learns how to sew.
“But we have to act quickly; this Zellers deal is a limited time only,” cautioned the 60 year-old leader.
After the press conference, Mulcair was seen sorting through all of the unused gift cards he has received as Christmas gifts to use in an effort to restore Canada Post’s home delivery.
