OTTAWA – Justice Minister Peter MacKay has reminded Canadians to honour Canadian soldiers on the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Polytechnique Massacre.
“I urge all Canadians to remember the brave sacrifices our men and women in uniform during this horrible tragedy,” MacKay stated in the House of Commons about the shooting deaths of 14 women who were targeted based on their gender. “We may never understand why these women were targeted, but we do know what really matters; supporting our troops.”
MacKay then described how 1989 was as a time of Cold War tensions with the Russians, instead of mentioning the fact that the Polytechnique shooter Marc Lepine was “fighting feminism” and targeted the women specifically because they wanted to become engineers.
“If angry feminists spent more time thanking our troops instead of complaining about violence against women and the wage gap, we would be a better country,” MacKay added.
At press time, Canadians may never know why Peter MacKay was elected.
