OTTAWA – Veterans Affairs Minister Julian Fantino has announced over $200 million to be spend on veterans who participated in the South African Boer War.
“Our veterans bravely served for King and Country to defeat Paul Kruger and the Afrikaners,” Fantino announced yesterday at the House of Commons. “Our distinguished volunteers have been waiting over a century to be compensated and I’m proud to announce our government has promptly responded.”
The new services include free wooden leg prosthetics, prescription monocles, ear trumpets, moustache wax and a photo of Queen Victoria in front of the Union Jack.
Fantino also took the opportunity to take a jab at the Liberals who were responsible for Canada’s participation during the Boer conflict.
“The Wilfrid Laurier Liberals ignored the needs our brave colonial men and wanted to sell out Britain’s finest colony to the Yankees with reciprocity,” Fantino explained with fellow Tory MPs nodding their heads.
According to sources, the $200 million will be paid out over a span of 75 years and will be mostly used for TV commercials to inform Boer War veterans about Veteran’s Affairs services.
