MONTREAL — In order to prevent excess pollution to the downtown area, the City of Montreal has ramped up its Eurotrash collection service for the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
“Every year at this time, downtown Montreal is littered with thousands of tons of unsightly Eurotrash,” said City Manager Eric Lapointe, who has taken measures to increase the number of public Eurotrash collectors working during the Grand Prix Weekend, as well as the number of available Eurotrash receptacles. “Last year we received hundreds of complaints from residents about the unpleasant cologne-y smell permeating Crescent Street. This year, we want to nip that in the bud.”
Lapointe reiterated the importance of properly disposing of unwanted Eurotrash, explaining that most items — which tend to be at least 90% hair gel by volume — will not start decomposing for years.
“If they’re wearing leather, that number is doubled,” Lapointe said.
Following the end of the final race on Sunday, the collected Eurotrash will be packed up and shipped to a remote landfill site across the Atlantic.
