MONTREAL – Former premier Pauline Marois has become Quebec’s first public-sector employee to lose their job over the Parti Quebecois’ proposed Charter of Values, following the Liberal party’s blowout victory in Monday’s election.
Despite telling reporters just days ago that her party’s controversial proposal would most likely cost some government workers their jobs, Marois admits she didn’t think that she’d be one of the people to whom she was referring.
“Nope,” said the outgoing PQ leader, staring blankly into the distance while gnashing her teeth. “Didn’t see that one coming.”
As for the PQ’s promise to assist workers who’ve lost their jobs over the Charter in finding new work, the party says it has already offered to pay for Marois to take English classes, so as to broaden her prospects for employment.
“In today’s job market,” explained an unnamed PQ staffer, “Bilingualism is an undeniable asset.”
