SOCHI – For the 22nd time in Winter Olympic history, Team Canada has failed to win a medal on the opening ceremonies event.
“It’s really disappointing that we couldn’t make breakthrough” said Team Canada’s flag bearer Hayley Wickenheiser who will likely be making her final appearance at the combined walking and waving event. “I was doing everything to win the judges over by swaying the Canadian flag back and forth and waving to the audience.”
Many on Team Canada were heartbroken that they couldn’t end the the longstanding medal drought.
“I have been practicing my waiving, smiling and walking in a group for many years” said a visibly disappointed snowboarder Dominique Maltais. “I can’t say I’m happy that our team has been shutout again.”
Despite the let-down, some athletes remain hopeful for Canada’s parade-related Olympic medal count.
“We still have a shot at the closing ceremonies” stated a determined bobsledder Justin Kripp.
