OTTAWA – The Harper Government is responding to the recent Revenue Canada Agency scandal in which nearly $400,000 in rebates was issued to a member of a reputed mobster by promising to work closely with the Canada Revenue Agency to keep these activities “in-house.”
“The government has a rich history and plenty of experience with doling out inappropriate sums of money to people that don’t deserve it and with writing personal cheques for no good reason” said Ray Novak the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff while speaking from his office. “But at least we know how to keep it within the family. Corruption is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with, so we are very happy to impart to CRA some of the tricks of the trade.”
Novak said that by adopting methods like deleting emails, redacting documents, shredding audits and using Swiss bank accounts, the privacy of the CRA and its activities will be protected.
“The Canadian people can be reassured that any future undue sums of money issued by the CRA will not go to members of the mafia, but will stay right here where it belongs,” he added while gesturing casually throughout the room then patting his pocket.
